I was looking up some information on Bill Rodgers and found this link. I enjoyed reading it and thought some of you might, as well.

I think you are implying that the opening remarks of the article, which refer to Bill Rodgers as "relatively unknown, but up and coming", as inaccurate; instead, you evidently think BR was already known as world class by the time Pre sent the letter.
Hey Shawn, here is an even more interesting perspective on the 'connections' from the events that transpired around your linked story:
(1) Bill Rodgers tells Jeff Galloway he is interested in the Nike training shoes that Pre wears;
(2) Jeff Galloway tells Pre that Bill Rodgers is interested in the Nike training shoes that Pre trains in;
(3) Pre sends Rodgers the letter and a couple pairs of shoes;
(4) Rodgers has a breakthrough marathon performance wearing a pair of the shoe that Pre sent;
(5) The shoes are a little too big, so Rodgers has to stop multiple times in the latter miles to tighten-up the laces;
(6) Galloway takes note of Rodgers breakthrough performance coinciding with his multiple stops-and-starts in the race; this engenders a future breakthrough idea, commonly referred to today as, that's right:
