Put that same amount of college kids in a room from any group of schools and it would be the same or worse. This isn't a fashion show for investment bankers, it's young adults just growing into their skin.
The fact you need that explained proves you are clueless. Ever think that maybe the kids in those pictures may not have they assets your parents had to get a suit tailored at that age? Or even the awareness?
They may look awkward but it is common at their age, unfortunately for you if you are such a bitter turd now, most hope is lost for you.

They're not delicate wall flowers; they're not poor kids who can't afford proper clothing. They're upper middle class WASPY kids who are think they are being cool.
But frankly, there's nothing less cool than that. They should just stick to the J. Crew catalog and get it over with.

You must go to a school that feels like they deserve to go to Nationals but bonked at Regionals and now you are extremely envious.
For the most part I agree with you but keep in mind most cross country runners are nerds and dweebs. Some are not and could excel at other sports, but generally speaking you are correct. The question is who really cares. Some of those dweebs will go on to become top CEOs of their own companies or establish companies and you will be working under them since you care more about being cool and doing moms.
Having a lot of friends running at the DI level, and having run at a pretty high level myself, I can honestly say that competitive runners are decidedly a mix of nerd/dweeb, as well as rich, upper middle class waspy kid, kids that dgaf about running and get girls, etc. Literally, any kind of kid you can think of.
They just look like typical Americans
