In med school. Frequent short runs, 5 or 6 times a week, or infrequent long runs 2 or 3 times a week.
I can only aim for about 25 a week.

Get lost shit head.
I actually got into serious running as an MA student: running helped me decompress from all of the reading/writing I was doing. This helped through the phd as well. I ran as much as I had to (and as frequently as I could). The long runs left me tired and on the couch (good for being a graduate student). I found that the short/intense workouts left me thinking about racing and not academics, so these tended to be distracting.
I imagine that med school would pose some different problems and limitations, particularly when you get into residency. Long days on your feet would likely make longer runs imprudent, whereas shorter runs might be all you have energy for.
Good luck with both!
Bob Kempainen ran sub 2:09 while in med school. But you can only do 25 mpw. What a wimp. I imagine the pose method of running would be the best type for you. That or running like a chicken. When you go go for runs, imagine yourself as a chicken; flap your arms like wings and use your feet like talons.
Backwards running.
Hold on now! Are you or aren't you in medical school? You're not being very clear on that.
