Don't do it, trust me better just to wake up and have it be done.
3% of the population is perfectly okay with such things
Take the big snooze. best sleep that I have had in years.
Gotta wonder how the jokes fly when the person is out.
I guess the govt is doing it for you if you are not getting knocked out?
A doctor from NYU perform the colonoscopy at me. To make me feel comfortable in his abilities, he bragged about how he's perform to call anoscopy is on himself without any anesthetic of course. I think it would be not that easy say the least. Something you build yourself up to with training. Have you ever performed enemas on yourself? (And that's just the thin tube up a few inches...)
I have and they're a bit of a hassle. Learn to Walk before you run. But if you swallow swords or work in the circus you'll probably take to it like a fish to water

We actually took it serious. No laughing (gas) matter---oops, sorry couldn't help it. Seriously, to the OP... You will be glad you had sedation, no need to tuff it out.
Had mine a few months ago with "twilight sedation." Watched the whole thing--it was pretty interesting. Wouldn't want to be knocked out (do they even offer that) but also wouldn't want to do it without sedation. Why would you want to?!
Just ease of the day. I wouldn't have to get a driver or waste the rest of the day.
The colon purge is wicked. I'm not sure I could have driven myself to the appt. as the 48hrs before is the worst! It just wouldn't stop. Go all the way- 3 day vacation
Take the nap. For all the reasons you can't think of.
I had one done cold with (unknowingly) a perforated bowel.
The most excruciating thing I've ever experienced.

That's typical in Europe. It doesn't hurt too bad, depending on the skill of the scope operator.
But doesn't hurt too bad is not my threshold for anesthesia.

I do this for FUN sometimes.

Conscious sedation is the way to go. Yes it's a pain in the ... err.. to get a driver to pick you up but.,, a good idea even for a usually uncomplicated procedure. As far as 'the rest of the day' you'll feel fine and clearheaded quite quickly.
I have sleep apnea and other comorbidities and my sedation is tricky. Can you butch it out- yeah it is possible but you'll have discomfort most noticeable in the transcending colon. Should you butch it out? No
There is also a significant issue with health insurance not paying for some types of anesthesia in some cases..

TRANSVERSE colon. No such thing as a transcending colon.

There will be when I'm through with it.

Hey, I didn't think of that. I may have to take off work the prep day also.
Yo, if you don't want the ol' tube up the poop shoot, you should check out these guys: http://www.exactsciences.com/solution/screeningtest. Basically they test the DNA in your feces for cancer cells. Pretty cool in that its almost as effective as a colonoscopy without the pain and hassle of you know a colonoscopy. Full disclosure I have work with Exact in the past; but seriously it's a good product.
Done sans sedative. On a scale of 1-10, the pain was a steady 2 or 3 with an occasional spike to 5 or 6. Overall, not terrible. Got to watch live while doc removed three polyps. No problems were anticipated, and he said come back in five years.
