Here are the facts.....
I drive 75 miles round trip to work, 5 x a wk (using Prius)
Wife is stay at home mom of 1, expecting 2nd, doesn't leave much during day
We take the Prius almost everywhere as a family.
We own....
2007 Toyota Prius (94k miles, owe $9,000 on it)
2004 Honda Accord (212k miles, paid off)
1999 Chevy pickup (194k miles, paid off)
I do all the maintenance and upkeep on all the vehicles myself. I use the truck to haul wood in the winter (split it and sell it) and to haul 4 wheelers.
I don't want to own 3 vehicles anymore. I can't simply sell the truck because I need it to haul stuff and neither car is equipped to handle hauling a trailer with a decent amount of weight.
Now that we are expecting our second child, I was thinking about selling the truck outright, trading the Prius for a small used suv (probably a Honda CRV) and then keeping the Honda for my daily commute. The mileage doesn't scare me and I expect the Honda to run at least another 100k with only minor repairs needed. If I trade the Prius I'll end up loosing 1k or so on it, maybe more.
If I followed the plan above I would be able to use a small trailer for hauling wood and the 4wheelers when needed with the CRV. The CRV would replace the Prius as our main family hauler.
Any advice?
