I'm sorry but 128k is just peanuts, and she's one of the best earners????

this never made sense to me, why someone would earn a degree from a reputable organization and not use it

What makes you think she won't use it.
Just not right now. I would take that life for a few years for that money.

Try to keep up.
That's prize money. Most her money is salary, bonuses and appearance fees.
Maybe you should be the one trying to keep up.. you think that amounts to anything significant? esp after taxes..
If you're out of school for more than a few years and don't use your degree you're done... just being a realist.
It amounts to plenty, and you're wrong about being "done". Why do people who say they're realists always seem to make shit up?

Yes, the other forms of income (salary bonuses etc) will be most of her income, with the exception of marathoners who win the big ones.

Actually, yes, it does. And everyone gets taxed so how is that relevant? She gets to travel around the world and race, doing what she loves. And I'm sure
And as I'm sure you know by now, since you seem to know everything, most people don't use their college degrees for their careers. She can decide to do whatever she'd like.
Take the stick out of your ass.
Only on letsrun is a 6 figure salary considered chump change.
you guys are talking like it's a lot though, when this kind of $ couldn't get you by living in NYC for one year
for the amount of effort and hard work she has to put in with all the high risks of injury (and thus no more money coming in) I'd say there's no question the pay is quite low. In most other fields, being in the upper .01 best at what you do would make you very rich.
a sore topic huh, you must be one of those hobby joggers chasing impossible olympic dreams, sucking up mom and dad's resources well into adulthood. do you work?
All told, she likely made close to $500-600k

You're a real dingus.

Let me put something into perspective for you. To qualify for the top 10% in America all you need is about $107k-$110k per year. So she is a top 10 percenter just from money earned from races. Throw in her other contracts and she's probably close to the top 3-5%.
So if being a top 10 percenter is garbage to you, then tell that to the other 90% that wish they could be in the top 10%.
you are misunderstanding... relative to the pressures of her job and the amount of dedication and hard work she has to put in that $ is not worth it. That's all I'm saying. And to the other poster who threw a 500-600k range I don't buy it.. when was the last time you saw her face on an ad. Use some logic, it's prob more like 200-250k, which again for an elite athlete is way low.

The $500-600k is not a guess. She made in that range. She makes ~$250k from Saucony before bonuses. Add in her winnings, apperance fees, and bonuses. There you go.

Give it up! You're talking stupid.

Your are misunderstanding. You think American pro runners do it solely for the money and fame? It isn't a glamerous life. Only about 0.5% of your home country knows who you are as an american record holder. You put yourself through physical pain without anyone forcing you to. For "living" the job 24/7 and only make pennies.
I'll take a wild guess that these athletes do it because they enjoy it before money comes into play.
