Could Maton theoretically race for Summit(realizing he has Footlocker West the same day, which is why it's hypothetical) at the championship or is there some rule against this? More importantly, what would of happenned had Maton ran for Summit at the regional but didn't show up for nationals? Could he have helped them qualify? What are the rules on this?
When you qualify for NXN you sign an agreement that you will race there. Unless Maton was on their roster (which he wasn't) and he signed that paper (he wasn't anywhere near the qualifying tent) then he could go. Since he did not race NXR NW then he cannot race at NXN.
If he had raced, and then stated that he was not going to Nationals then they would take him out of the team scoring and scored Summit's 6th man.

I'm no expert on the NXN rules, but what's written above sounds a bit extreme/made up. So if someone is sick for nationals, they will rescore the regional meet without that runner and fly in another team instead?
Summit didn't run at the regionals. A club team that just happened to be composed of all Summit runners did. Maton is not a part of the club. He can't run.
So what if I started my own club team and plucked the best 'teamless' individuals from our region. Could we race at an NXN qualifier?
No. Even though you can't race as your high school, you must all be from your high school team.

Yes. When the top 4 teams (and top individuals) go into the tent, right then they state whether they are committing to go to NXN. That way they can get all the athletes to sign waivers and forms and travel stuff. I've never heard of a team passing a spot up, but a few individuals do.
Can't qualify with one set of kids and then race another. All from one school.
What happens if you fly there and your sick? Can you not race an alternate or do you have to run?
