WB in the 2 mile would be insane, 8:04 was set by an alltime great ( bekele) and almost seems almost untouchable. Definitely possible if his pacer is solid though. Outdoor WB for 2 mile would be insane though. Although I doubt that's touchable.
Rupp just needs insanely good pacing to the point of ludicrousness. Bekele has a history of setting WRs with lousy almost nonexistent pacing--basically, by himself, cause he's, of course, the GOAT.
Ruppster: 8:07 and a half or so was his last time out? Assuming he's better now, if we make a (admittedly flawed) comparison to outdoor 2 miles, note that the same race that Tegenkamp set the American 2-mile outdoor record in (around same time, 8:07) saw Mottram beat Tariku Bekele in the low 8:00's. I think, Rupp, in his prime right now, is on par with Mottram at his career very best.
Again, if we think about all of Bekele's records as qualified by the poor pacing conditions (for which, otherwise, he likely would have ran significantly faster), approaching them is revealed to be less unreasonable than previously believed. Plus, indoor 2-mile is not frequently contested so we may have a skewed view of what's realistic, though typically conversions put the 2-mile mark he's going for at about faster than his phenomenal 3k time of 7:30 and change. So, on the contrary, he's at the limits of performance here. Maybe they'd do well to make it a year plus focus on the 5k? *shrug*
