The IAAF announced for the first time since 1988 there will be a track final in the morning on each the six morning track sessions. In reality, there will be eight track finals in the morning (plus the five road events, marathons, walks, etc) spread out over the six sessions. This is being done at the "the request of the Rio local organising committee and the Olympic Broadcasting Service."
We don't know what events they will be other than the fact that the women's 10,000 will be one of them and on day 1. We also know they will be split evenly between genders.
It seems like a well thought out move. We always wondered who the hell went to those morning sessions in London - sold out - but no finals. Now everyone gets to see at least one final and European tv viewers can see a few things live without staying up ridiculously late and Asian viewers can see something live in prime time.
