I've never done it, but I'd chose Crossfit if those were the ONLY two options. I'm 49 and don't run to get fast and race anymore. I want to maintain general fitness and strength as I get older, so I run some and do full-body workouts. Crossfit or something similar is much better for my purposes.
Always run. Never, ever, lower yourself to doing xfit. Ever
Well I got time so I run (long runs, easy runs, tempos, intervals, fartlegs,...) and lift weights twice a week.
If I only had 20 min to work out per day, I'd probably join CrossFit and go there 2-3 times per week. Seems to be the best bang for the buck (in terms of time, not $).

Well, what is it you're training for? If you're training to run then run. If you're training to do xfit type stunts then do xfit stuff.
With only 20 minutes to run, that's not enough to train for competitive running. So I'd go with Xfit.
2 minutes to change in to your gear. 10 minute warmup. 1 minute of X-Fit. 5 minute shower. 2 minutes to get dressed.
I am not aware of any Crossfit™ gyms that will have you work out for 20 minutes. Remember, their goal is to take your MONEY.

It depends (on your goals).
Do you want to be the fastest possible runner? Then given your time constraint, do some high intensity running works.
Do you want a reasonably well-rounded blend of cardio and strength? Then do Crossfit.
High intensity running requires a warm up of at least 10-15 minutes. That doesn't leave any time for a workout.
Crossfit would make more sense if you only have 20 minutes... but if you only have 20 minutes to exercise, your priorities are screwed up.
I'd get my life back in order so I could run.
Run to the woods, pick up a big log, run with the log to a field. Throw the log, pick it up, throw it again, and so forth until it crosses the field. Run around the field and repeat. Pick up the log and run back to the woods and put it back, no excuse for littering and it's probably shelter for a lot of bugs and worms. Run back home. That should be about 20 minutes.
Hill repeats. 10x200m with a jog back recovery up a 8-10% gradient. The best bang for your buck you'll get.
2 minutes jogging followed by 18 minutes at 10k effort
Intense HIIT in the style of sprints every other day. Lifting/jogging days in between those.

Not a bad workout but it won't get you BUFF.

Xfit, we aren't trying to get buff. We are not training to lift things, we are training to run fast. We runners are secure with our penises, we don't have to try to make up for having a small member by having large muscles, unlike you xfitters/body builders
What's ur goal? Running? Then intervals.
Fitness? Then high intensity circuit training. Don't call it xfit...
