You have likely seen this question asked many times, but I am fairly new to the site and after seeing some pretty smart guys on here I figured I would ask. After recently running a marathon, I have decided to spend the next few months working on my time on the half. My half pr is 1:33:07 though it was on a hilly course.
My goal is to break 1:30.
These are my thoughts:
easy days: 6-8 miles @ 8:15-30?
two hard days a week- 1) tempo at race pace (6:52), working up to 8 miles
2) mile repeats @ 6:30, 3 minutes of rest. Maybe up to 7 or 8? (I'll also work in other speed work like 800 and 1200 but these two are primary)
Also the long run, between 10 and 15 miles.
I'm looking to be in the 50 to 60mpw range running 6 days a week.
Does this seem legit? It makes sense to me to have the tempo run around race pace and a second workout faster than race pace. What about the pace of the easy day? Too slow? I've heard some guys running that time with faster but also some with their easy day much slower.
I would greatly appreciate some feedback. Thanks in advance!
