Kentucky basketball - two platoons?

Perry CLark did that with Tulane in the early 90's. They were called the "Posse".

We tried this with high school team. The kids HATED it.

But...HS games are shorter so the rotation was 3 in 3 out. Kids didn't like the flow or lack thereof.

Getting 10 guys to be wholey unselfish is almost impossible.

Interested if they are able to pull it off. And if Cal mixes up the 5s from game to game.

Alls I know is this Kentucky team could challenge the 76ers easily. They are loaded.

I thought the Ukrainian kid (17yo) for Kansas looks very good. Moves better than I thought, good defender, shoots a perfect quick jumper and is 6'8". Looks like a future pro to me.

Anyway, the platoon thing will go away by February - championships are won by going 7-8 deep, and in the S16 and beyond, you'll see 6-7 guys getting the actual crunch time minutes. Cal is just figuring out who the 7-8 guys are right now.

I still like Arizona's top 6 more than UK's

Their commit to all-out defense is what makes them the scariest team. Defense will create offensive op's

An NBA executive recently did an anonymous interview stating he believes Kentucky could beat the 76ers 3 out of 10 times.

Coach Cal said at his pre season conference he plans to do two platoons the entire season. He said he is willing to possibly lose a couple games early on due to the kids learning how to play this way.

Arizona is good, but they are 2 levels below Kentucky and a level below Wisconsin and Duke in my eyes.

Noel was drafted as a project, so he's a bit aways from any legit NBA starting roster.

I believe Grinnell used this sort of system with 3 complete squads a few years ago. They were playing some kind of crazy hurry-up system.

Yea grinnell has that guy who scored 135 pts. They just rotate kids in and out and throw up shots. If you throw up enough shots you are bound to make a few

Grinnell wants to play so fast they have to sub 3 or so minutes at time. It's gimmicky. I think designated shooter stays in and doesn't always get back on defense.

If you are playing that fast and hard, you can only keep up for short spans of time.

Like hockey.

Was at clinic last month and Dana Altman said if you know they're better than you, you as a coach better come up with something different, in order to compete.

This is why he started pressing years ago at Creighton. I've always bought into the idea of pressing when I knew we were better.

I don't think UK is subscribing to this theory though. They can line up toe to toe and play straight man w/ anyone.
