Small project to add some cabinets over a washer/dryer in a small, semi finished laundry room. Doesn't seem worth hiring someone given most contractors in my area are scheduled 3 mos out. Have a medium level of home renovation experience consisting of tiling, drywall, counter installation, and painting. Is it working tackling on my own?
Yes, men should attempt to tackle simple projects in matters of home renovation, vehicle maintenance, etc. Its always good to know your limits, particularly with complex systems, but cabinetry isn't complex.
If you're good with a level and measuring it's not difficult. If you're truly by yourself buy or build a jig to put the cabinets on so they're stable when you fasten them to the wall.
Decide where you want the cabinets to sit. Hang a 1x4 level on the wall where you want the bottom of the cabinets to rest. Then simply set them on the 1x and screw them into the studs. Take off the board, mud the holes and paint. Easy way to hang with only 1 person.
This sounds like something you should be able to handle.
However, if you have to purchase a level, maybe not.
Finally, it will be much easier if you have a second person. If that person actually owns a level, well there you go...
