Can he do that without having to sit out a year?
Back in the day, I changed schools and had to sit out a year.
In most states, you sit the year, but its possible to get around that rul if you're crafty and willing to stoop low. When you know you're going to transfer, start pushing a bullying situation with the kid who wants to transfer. Bullying is the one thing that administrators will leave alone and never question. You can get the state association to exempt you if you're convincing enough. It worked with a family in the Louisville, KY area.
Apparently in this state you can transfer w/in the next semester w/o penalties according to the coach. I guess a few other students from other high schools have joined this team. Anyhow, I can't see my kid transferring to another school just so he thinks/or the parents think he has a shot of being "something" better. We have a pretty good program and my son has made good friends on the team. I don't get leaving a team to think you have a better chance to make it "big" in another area. It's one thing if our program or coaches were bad but we're not. Just my 2cents humble opinion.

I did that and improved 36 seconds in the mile in 1 season. Took me from being average joe runner to nationally ranked.
