What would 6-8 400's at 72 seconds be training best? I think it would work towards a 4:40 1600 if there is a 400 resting jog between each. Anyone know for sure though?

4:40? There's no way one can run a 4:40 mile assuming a 6-8 400' @ 72 as a hard effort. not even with a 60' rest, not to mention with a 400m rest. That's a lot. Honestly, it's hard to even predict with that much rest for this training. Probably around 5:00 or slower.
My coach never made us do more than 4x400 with full recovery and I hit 4:52
I could run 12x400 with a 400 jog without straining too much my Junior year of high school and I ran 4:39 for the 1500.
the rest is too much and in any case the 400s are at 4:48 1600m pace. do 10x400m at 70 with 60 s rest, then you're definitely ready.
I ran 4:40 my sophmore year off of these workouts
4 Mile Tempo run @ 5:41
12x 400m @69 w/ 200m Jog rest
5x1000m @3:11 w/ 90 second rest
was also running 60-70 MPW most of the season and during base for track.
I've ran 67s with like rest 12 times without feeling that bad and didn't run 4:40.
