Jack Lemmon is known mainly for comedic films but he made a number of good, fairly serious films about how individuals can get caught up in a fast moving, competitive world and lose their bearings--Wine and Roses, The Apartment, Save the Tiger--all good.
Ironic that the Henry Mancini theme for Wine and Roses became a big romantic hit song in the 60s, but if you see the film it is anything but romantic at the end, with the couple breaking up.
