Happy Veterans' Day [almost], Masters! Shout out to my brother in Afghanistan who ran their version of Marine Corps Marathon a couple weekends ago.
Pretty good week of running on my end including:
rockville 10k 37:22 Sunday (7th OA, 2nd M50+)
18 miles with 10 X 100 strides at the end (Weds.)
12 miles with 6400m tempo (24:05) and 8 X 200 (200 jog) (total 5:39) Sat.
I'd thought sub-37 was feasible in the race (moderately hilly road course), and I guess I still had some chance thru 5 miles (29:50) but at that point turned into a wall of headwind and lost a good deal of time in final 1.2 [glad I wasn't running NYCM that morning].
Lost AG by 8 seconds to my fellow Rockvillean Jean-Christophe Arcaz. He took that lead in about the first half-mile and just maintained it throughout. I crept up a little just after halfway but never got close enough to draft off him He's tall and a nice guy so I figured he would wait for me and block the wind, but apparently that wasn't his race plan. I need to sharpen up my tactics for the rematch next sunday in Alexandria over 12K (USATF national champs series race) -- looks like a strong masters field is entered.
have a great week,
Dave
