Let's talk about someone different for a change. Chris Derrick. He's still got quite a ways to go before his career is done.

it would be exciting for sure and that's the hope, that he's the latent next superstar of the Schu group. Sub 13, Sub 27--but I think those achievements are unfathomably difficult. Ritz, Teg and Solinsky--the three Americans not named Rupp--broke those barriers in a pinnacle which portended or at least conspicuously preceded their eventual demise/retirement.
Personally, I think more money, public/cultural support and glory is needed to generate a larger, effective elite American distance athlete pool. Maybe someone will come up with a (insert corporation)-(insert other location)-Project or two or three. America, with its vastness, nature and variegated landscape, should down the line be conducive to running shangrilas outside of Oregon.
How about any reports on what he's been up to? He was in a couple early summer races and then nothing that I know of. I thought there was some high profile road 5K he was supposed to be in a month or two ago?
So few opportunities currently to run fast (sub 27) at 10000.

And the Schumacher cult races like twice a year. Probably won't even attempt it.

Last I saw he raced USAs 10,000m on the track. Galen Rupp smoked him in the last 500 and it didn't look like Derrick tried that hard to keep up. I guess it's kind of like "why bother" when you're against a 26:44 guy
He lacks Rupp's speed. However, he ran 8 seconds faster than Rupp as a junior (under 20), with 13:29, which was an AJr at the time before German beat it. He has also gotten down to 13:08, taken two straight US xc titles, and finished 10th at World XC, which is very competitive but was also affected that year by the conditions. And he JUST turned 24 in mid October, so he'll be 24 still all next season. I don't think that he pr'd this year but he surely has a good deal of potential to drop more time, and maybe next year we'll see an impressive 10k time from him early season, like another of Schumacher's athletes, Chris Solinsky ran years back.

Oh man, that's some great info. I didn't know he was *that* young! I thought he was coming up on 25 already. Well now I'm really optimistic. 24 is very young.
Huge Chris Derrick fan! Watched him race in Illinois when he was in high school.
Unfortunately, he will never fulfill his potential under Jerry S.
How fun would it be to be one of the fastest distance runners in the world and never race?
If Rupp ran he probably never even toes the line at the Olympics. He would peak in late April every year or November.
Sometime when it doesn't matter or nobody is watching.
I don't understand. Evan Jager is a Schumacher guy and he races pretty frequently doesn't he?
No. Schumacher athletes do not race a lot.
Will he break 27?
Probably not.
Will he be the US XC champion for the next 10 years?
Count on it.

Just like Solinsky never went after it, right? Stop being dumb. They race plenty, they just don't race when it doesn't make sense.
Derrick ended his season rather early, as he was a little banged up and the 10k in Brussels was canceled. It's going to be hard for him to break 27 considering there is one or two 10k's a year that are even remotely that fast, Payton Jordan is super early and Pre will continue to set up the race for Rupp only if he wants it.
I could see him breaking 60 if he moved up

Jager rarely races considering that is his job. Rupp races twice as much. Jager runs a 13:02 in 2013. Doesn't even bother to race it again this year. How regretful! The dude should have the 5k AR, but he'll never race it more than once every two years. Derrick is smart. He needs to get out while he is still relatively young.
Which training group has done better at training vs recruiting?

Jager should have the 5k AR? Wow. Um.... Haha. OK.
It's perhaps a joke when and if Galen Rupp gets around to registering his probable insane potential 5k peak, which should put the 5K American record Out of reach of any contemporary. But if you'd followed Evan Jäger early on b4 he formally focused on steeplechase, he announces In the Kimbia management video series "Wisconsin to worlds" his ambition to have the greatest ever American 5000 m runner career.

What time is an "insane potential 5k peak"?
"Will Chris Derrick run under 27 in the future?"
As opposed to running under 27 in the past?
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
