And is that your real name? I see no such person in the results for this or last year. I assumed you were real given your whole schtick.

He ran a 3:18:something. I think this was just a training run for his real race in Philadelphia.
3:18:xx

I ran 3:18 splitting 1:40/1:38 with mile 26 being my fastest of the day. This was my final 20+ mile run for Philly.
Basically I stuck to the plan today in hopes of breaking 3 at Philly. Honestly had a blast out there hi fiving the spectators, holding a US flag up 1st Ave starting chants of USA, USA. Wouldn't trade today's experience for anything and hope to have a different special type of experience in Philly in 3 weeks.
Thanks for asking though and most importantly this was the first time I've run a marathon without cramping, felt good.

That's pretty damn lame.

Nice job - good luck in Philly!
What's your current 10km time? I'm wondering if I could do the same.
Good luck in Philly. Hopefully it stays dry.
What happened with running part of it with Caroline? She get back to you?

Haven't run a 10K this year but in similar shape last year ran a 37:06.
Thank you, hoping for a great day in Philly. I'm going to do everything I can to break 3.

Nope, she ignored my follow up tweet prior to NYC. A little disappointing but I honestly had a blast out there anyway. Ironically, I must have passed her on mile 5 or 6 as I stopped at a porta potty waited in line and had to have been in back of her afterwards.
I'm still glad this thing happened, was able to raise over $4,000 for charity and had one of the best times I've ever had at a race hi fiving tons of spectators along the way, encouraging struggling runners around me, just a great day!

Meant to type 37:36 for the 10K, my bad on that.

I was pulling for you to get to run with her, but I am happy you had a great day anyhow. Good luck in Philly!

Hey, you did great today at Philly! 2:57 and negative splits.
Way to go dude.
Congrats! wrote:

Thank you very much, sorry about the delayed response I haven't been on here as much lately. Its a huge monkey off of my back breaking 3 @ Philly and I really feel like negative splitting is the way to go. I cramped with 10K left but was somehow able to pretty much hold pace with those cramps (slowest mile of the entire day was 6:59 for Mile 25, Mile 26 was a 6:40)
I appreciate the well wishes and I'm taking a few weeks off and then plan to hit the ground running in an attempt to break 1:18 for a HM next year (current PR is 1:20).
The bottom line is don't give up on your goals/dreams. I failed 3X at breaking 3 before successfully doing it so for all you sub 3 hopefuls out there just keep training hard, evaluate what is working and what isn't and continually tweak your training plan until you get yourself ready.
For me the difference was going from 195 lbs to 185lbs, going from 60 MPW to 70 MPW and adding in mid week runs of about 14-15 miles with the last 8-10 @ MP.
Thank you again to everyone that supported me, it means a lot!
Great race. What's the next running goal? More marathons or tackle the 5k or mile PR? The mile is making a comeback.

Thank you, I was very happy with how the race went overall. The next order of business is getting my hamstring healthy. It's been injured for well over a year and I've just been running and sitting in pain as a result. I went to a sports doctor yesterday and his ultrasound showed a tear in it. Honestly not shocked about this. MRI+ gait analysis next week.
As for running, assuming I can get healthy (all my doc said I can run currently is slow distance for now) my goals are a sub 1:18 half (current PR 1:20)and to PR in the 10K currently 37:31, I know, the 10K is my weakest PR.
The mile is making a comeback but I'm 34 years old and not touching the equivalent of my 4:20 1500M from my college days.
It took over 2 years, thousands of miles and lots of pain (photos on my FB) to finally break 3 hours but it was all worth it. I'm a big dude 6'2" 185-190, I'm very proud that I was able to pull it off.
What are your goals for 2015 mile racer?
Hope that hamstring clears up. Injury free is the key to progress. Kudos again on the time and sticking with it.
My goal's to break 5:00 for the mile. I'm over 40 so it will be a real challenge. I have the benefit of never running in college--breaking 5:00 is an automatic PR.
Also 17:xx in the 5km next year. This might be easier than the mile.
Now is the time. It will only get harder. 2:59 marathon is on the list, but it can wait for sometime in the next 20 years.
Thanks, me too, I really feel like I can keep getting faster if I can just get healthy. I think persistence and just not giving up in goals is the key even if others are vocally doubting you.
5:00 for the mile is just as much a mental barrier as it is physical. Over 40 definitely will make it more challenging but it will make it all that more rewarding once you successfully do it.
It's all about getting your foot speed to sub 5 level along with having the aerobic capacity to close out the race. You can do it man, train hard, train smart.
The 17:XX should definitely be easier than sub 5 at over 40. The key to the 5K is running as even splits as possible.
Honestly the marathon kills your legs and creates injuries due to the high mileage and demands of all of the long runs. Think long and hard before attacking breaking 3, maybe get fast at the HM first and then decide.
I wish you the best of luck with your training, hope your 2015 race season is a successful one!
