Hello, I've been running xc for two years now and plan on going onto college and running for a d2 team. Prior to xc my freshman and sophomore years I played soccer. I run three seasons now. My coach likes to keep me low mileage and rarely does a good workout. I run between 17-23 miles on average and have a PR of 17:00 (flat course) and 17:15 (hilly). I feel like if I ran a serious amount of mileage in college like 50-60, even maybe 70 I could be a really good 5k and 8k runner. I've been struggling a lot this year with injuries and missed three big invites. I've been injured because of bumping my mileage from 30-50 in one week. After running 50 miles that one week my legs felt exhausted yet felt like they weighed nothing. Just looking for some opinions on if I upped my mileage for years to come if there would be significant gains.
P.s. The mileage I included counts warmup and cool down.
