I had made a reddit thread on /r/running, but for lack of reponses I came here. Sorry if i'm a total noob.
Alright, well, I'll start off by saying this is a throw-a-way account because my friends and myself are very active on reddit, and I'm quite embarassed by my situation.
Here's my situation, I'm joining the Army. And we have to run the mile in 8:30 minutes. I leave fairly soon, and I have to take a test, which involves running the said-mile on November 7th, maybe the 11th if i'm lucky.
Now, this isn't exactly last mintue, for I have been practicing my running over the past two weeks. Yesterday, I managed to run around a squared apartment complex (three times around it is a mile) in 10 minutes. I did not run the entire way, and I can say I probably walked 3 sides. ( 12 sides total to the mile )
I can do the first 1/3rd mile fairly easy, everythings fine, pace is fast and steady, but then shortly after that my heart starts to go into a freaking overdrive mode, I swear it.
I'll be trying to work on it nearly every day, probably only giving myself a day to rest, and the day before the test.
Tl;dr: I'm a complete noob at running, and need suggestions on how to improve, fast!
Edit 1: I'll be attempting to run again in about 30 minutes, I have to wait for my clothes to dry. I'll be sure to time it/lap it.
Edit 2: Alright, well, semi-good news. I asked my friend whom is also going to bootcamp- just in a few months, a few things and he said not looking at the stopwatch you have might help.
And it surely did, I managed to finally get around 1 mile. usually i'd at least stop for 10 seconds once. (not gonna lie, maybe twice :c ) Anyways, I did the full mile and got 9:29 on the watch. Caught my breath for 10-15 seconds whilst walking and then ran the 1/8th home.
