If so, why?
If so, why?
Well, I'm not 8 anymore for starters.
Grow up.
What exactly is one "celebrating" on Halloween?
Let the kids dress up in scary costumes and go trick or treating.
Yes, I get that, but in reference to your original question, what is being celebrated? Why is someone a "kook" because they don't celebrate a holiday that has no real meaning to them?
I don't do religious holidays...except for Christmas.
I buy a bag of ghirardelli squares and I put them into a bowl to give out to any kids who stop by. Does that count as celebrating? If so a) yes, I celebrate Halloween, and b) you have a pretty boring idea of what constitutes a celebration.
Okay, let's try this approach.... On Christmas one usually celebrates the birth of Christ, On New Years it's the ringing in of a new year, Easter- the resurrection, the Fourth- our nation's sovereignty, Thanksgiving- thankfulness for our blessings. What is being celebrated on Halloween? Candy? Cute kids in costumes? That stuff is fun, but it's not a "celebration". I pass out candy, my kids dress up and it's fun but I don't judge those who don't participate, that's just being judgemental and controlling. Worry about your own life.

You're over thinking this. WAAAAY over thinking it.
It's pretty simple, really. Let's see if I can help:
It's a fun tradition. Been going on a long time. It actually, like many other holidays, has Christian roots, but today has been commercialized to the point of just being about costumes, decorations, candy, and gifts, and spending time with your family (sound familiar? It should). Kids like it, and parents have fun with it to. So...
To take some stupid stand that one "is against Halloween" or "won't let my kids celebrate that day" is just being uptight, or ridiculous. It's fun, it's harmless. If you take this stand, you are a Hallo-WEENIE. Yes, this is how I "judge" all who take that stand.
"Your" welcome.
It's not a holiday n
To the contrary, I was pointing out your "underthinking" of this. You are strangely bothered by people who don't participate in an unnecessary holiday. Judgemental and controlling fits.
"you're" welcome

jesus was not born on the winter solstice. Ostara is a fertility holiday where the tradition was to have sex all day. Thanksgiving is about thanking the Indians for teaching the pilgrims how to grow corn and catch turkeys.
halloween is another hijacked holiday. In its original form it was Samhain, a celtic festival marking the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. It involves celebrating and fun because after the harvest you have plenty to eat and no more work to do. It involves spooky and evil things because winter is a time of darkness and death. It involves pumpkins because they are a food that gets harvested around that time, and because they can be carved to look spooky and evil.
Halloween is the celebration of the appearance of the Great Pumpkin.
I thought EVERYBODY knew that.
