...or are we stuck with them forever? It depresses me when I see hot younger women tatted up. Just not attractive.

unfortunately for you I don't think these "hot younger women" are remotely interested in you.
also, you must be getting senile since the majority of atttractive young women don't have visible tattoos
Eventually the tattoo thing will go out of style. Once a lot of people start showing up in nursing homes with tattoos people will realize how foolish they were to get them when they were younger.
A little history lesson. Dating back as far as the early 1200's, many military infantry received tattoos for achievments in battle. This is nothing new. That fad lasted over 300 years.
The difference is, those people had no resources available to inform them, (even if they could read) of the dangers of tattoos. And, those tattoos were not always made with safe materials.
At one point in time, the following were the dominant fashion:
1. Blow dry hair styles
2. Gold medallions
3. Hair slicked down with pomade
4. Buzz cuts
5. Frizzy perms
6. Showing lots of chest hair (men)
7. Bouffant hair styles
8. Jean jackets
9. Turtle neck shirts
Tattoos will go the same way eventually. What is cool for young people can turn on a dime. Once everyone's parents have tattoos (we are pretty much there), their kids won't want to have anything to do with them.

I really hope that when you're in your 70's you won't regret the things you did when you were younger, unless you did meth or murdered somebody

Do you recommend waiting until I am older to get a tattoo?
Once the 50 year old and older crowd start getting more tats, they will go rapidly out of style! No one wants to be 'hip' like their parents. :)
