Guns will be part of American Society forever, we might as well educate everyone on safe handling of firearms now.
What took them so long?
This country is in trouble

As will drugs, knives, gambling, mental illness, serial murder... Hey, we could create a pretty full and interesting curriculum for our 1st graders.
I think their are many important things 1st graders need to learn. Do we really need NRA bought politicians recommending additions to the curriculum?
The really sad part, is the total lack of shame by the governor.

Drugs, I assume you mean illegal drugs?
Gambling, controlled and illegal in most of America?
Knives? You must be joking. Knives are in every home in America.
Mental illness? You have it.
Serial murder? Also illegal, unlike guns which are perfectly legal and there are over 300,000,000 of them in America? How many serial killers are there you drama queen biatch?

OK, so your post doesn't make any sense at all.
At any rate, we certainly could create an interesting curriculum. Hopefully it won't be taught by mentally ill individuals like yourself.
Get some help. Really.
I did no that.

Wow, somebody actually taking action to reduce gun accidents. What a thought! And some of you are so blinded by your politics you think this is a bad idea.
I started with my kids as toddlers-
"Assume every gun is loaded."
"Don't point a gun at anything you don't intend to shoot."
"Guns are not toys-they are tools."
These are lessons that are appropriate for first graders.
I never bought toy guns for my kids. That would undermine the message that guns are not toys. They did find sticks in the yard, and go bang bang, however. I own 5 real guns, and use them to hunt annually. They have always been under lock and key, and the ammunition is kept separately, also under lock and key
About 4th or 5th grade, I taught my kids to shoot. Very rigorous safety protocols. We live in a culture where TV and video games desensitize kids to violence. Seeing what a 30-.06 can do to a grapefruit, or a shotgun versus a head of lettuce teaches that the wounds in the movies where the good guy keeps moving are bullshit. Actually shooting in a safe environment demonstrates the power of weapons, and shows better than anything that they are not to be fooled with.
I have taken both my kids hunting. They have not really taken to it (13 and 16 YO) which is fine. They have a healthy respect for guns, and for life and living things-but also understand the positive aspects of hunting. I do not keep a loaded weapon in the house to protect against home invasion, as I don't believe such a scenario is a real threat to me. I'm more likely to be struck by lightning, or hit by a train. The risk of the loaded weapon lying around is greater than a bogey man breaking into my house in the middle of the night.

Got it. Thanks for taking the unnecessary correction in stride rather than taking offense.
Cheers!
