As much as I'm intrigued by the idea, I don't know how Eugene could pull it off. I can see ways of working out all of the logistics except the main one, the stadium. The Texas state champs could fill Hayward field.

1. I disagree. Have you seen crowds at track meets (US nationals etc)? Not that impressive.
2. Even if true, its no reason to give it to yet another 3rd world syhthole so they can showcase and empty house.
Wait has this actually been decided?
98% of the population of Eugene would not even be aware that it was going on. Obviously it's a Nike/UO thing.
Eugene, Doha, and Barcelona have put in applications to host the 2019 IAAF World Championships
Well. If I'm not mistaken, Eugene would only win the WCs if they made upgrades to facilities in and around Hayward. I think they are committed to doing this, if they win the WCs. But I haven't read what they would be.
I think you can expand seating at Hayward somewhat.
Personally I'm in the middle ground as to what seating capacity needs to be. I think it needs to be greater than even what they have for the Olympic Trials.
On the other hand, this notion that the WC has to be in some 60,000 seat arena or greater is wrong. As somebody pointed out, recent WCs don't fill all the seats. Moreover, in so much as you have demand for 50,000 seats in a 30,000 seat arena, then what is the big deal. Treat it like a Sinatra concert in a small music hall. Charge a lot for the tickets, enjoy the packed stadium, and let those turned away watch it on TV. My hunch is that the WC officials who decide this see things the same way.
