The whole world is abuzz. Tomorrow at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, Real Madrid meet FC Barcelona in club sport's biggest, most intense and most fabled rivalry; a spectacle a.k.a 'El Clasico'. Two of the world's best footballers, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, will also be vying for prominence.
But does America care? During Team USA's short but improbable run at the World Cup in Brazil (1-1-2), American media, fair weather fans and even posters on this board were adamant that the interest wasn't fleeting; that "soccer" had finally won the nation's heart; and that USA would be legitimate contenders at the next World Cup in Russia 2018. Any suggestion of these projections as a bit optimistic would be roundly dismissed as "hate" and even drowned in abusive posts (threads could be bumped as proof).
So a whole 3 months after the World Cup, do people still think football/soccer is taking America by storm? Will you be the estimated half-a-billion plus viewers watching live? Predictions?
