Here's my background. About 50 heavier than my peak racing weight. Haven't run consistently in 3 years. Last time I did a run longer than 5 miles was last spring. Currently I've done 2-3 3 mile jogs a week at ~10 min pace. My diet is absolute trash right now, too, eating fast food almost every day. Basically, I'm an out of shape slob.
I would like to race a 10k 44 days hence. Because I'm so out of shape, I have no idea about a legitimate time goal. It's been 5.5 years since I last PRed, running 16:47 in a 5k. My goal is to get into the best possible shape I can over the next 6 weeks. I'd like advice on what I should do to accomplish this goal.
Here's some background about my current life and what I'm willing to do to get into shape, for reference. I work 3-11:30 Monday-Friday. Although I get out late, I'm not opposed to ~30 minute runs at midnight to double. I think doubling could be essential to getting in shape quickly, as long as I'm also working to avoid injury. I can adjust my diet and am willing to take suggestions on that. Instead of eating out at work, I can pack a lunch. So ideas on good, healthy lunches to pack would be appreciated. I'm not going to give up drinking for 6 weeks, but I'll make an effort to cut it down to a maximum of twice a week.
So that's about it for now. What kind of training advice can Letsrun give me for going from slobness to respectable shape in ~6 weeks?
