Points in favor:
1. Kobe was more dominant within his sport than Jeter was.
2. Kobe also has five rings.
3. Kobe also has played with only one team his entire career.
4. Like Jeter, Kobe generally praised as a tough competitor who gets the most out of his abilities.
5. Like Jeter, Kobe viewed as a "clutch" player.
Points against:
1. Unlike Jeter, Kobe not always well liked by teammates throughout his career.
2. Unlike Jeter, Kobe has demended to be traded.
3. Rape allegation.
4. Deemed at times to be a selfish player (in fairness, there isn't an equiavlent to this in baseball where selfishness doesn't change what you do in the game)
5. Whether fair or not, Kobe considered somewhat responsible for pushing Shaq out and thus hurting his overall team for individual reasons.
Conclusion: I say no. Sure he's a top-10 all-time player (Jeter is not), but he lacks the character and team-first ideals that Jeter maintained. And the honor that Jeter and Mariano received with their season-long sendoffs were not just based on baseball accomplishments but also based on their all-around good character which is something that Kobe lacks in some aspects.
What say you?
