Having run a bunch of smaller races and half marathons, I finally got into the 2014 NYC Marathon! It was going to be my first marathon and I followed my training plan religiously. Unfortunately, last week I went for a 7 mi tempo run (which I rocked!) and couldn't walk afterward. A MRI showed a "significant" stress fracture on my talus (ankle). I'm booted, on crutches, and the dr "would be surprised if I healed before 8 weeks."
I am going to defer to 2015, but I honestly don't know what I did wrong. My plan was extremely conservative. I had my shoes fitted and tried about five pairs before I found something that worked. Now, I'm nervous about trying again without changing something.
Does anyone have any experience with coaching for a recreational runner? I'm not trying to set any world records, just get to the starting line-- which apparently is much easier said than done :-(
