So, as my username suggests, I didn't grow up in the US or go to college here.
But I am interested to know more about US college athletics.
Obviously the top guys (D1?) are running at a very high level but how deep is the talent pool?
I didn't run at all at high school or college as I played football (soccer) but have since taken up jogging as a hobby. I am at about 36 flat for a 10K. If I had been at college in the US would that sort of time have got me anywhere near even the worst of the college teams? I appreciate it wouldn't be fast enough for a scholarship or anything like that but can you still join the college team even if you pay to go to the college?
Also, how does the D1, D2, D3 thing work? Is it simply D1 is best and it works down from there? Do schools get promoted between divisions?
This isn't a troll, by the way. Genuinely interested to know as we are living in the US now and have kids.
