Where was Mario Mendoza? He is one of the best mountain runners out there. He would have destroyed Max King!

He was busy getting waxed by Smyth in the US half marathon trail championship.
You guys do realize that there were multiple US and world trail running champs in this race, along with sub 4 and sub 14 guys, right? Brooks even sent a team to compete.
Gosh, there are some bitter, jaded posters on this website.
Yes
Sure, Hobie is somewhat quirky, but he's genuinely a really nice guy. And Runner's World conducted that interview in a really unprofessional manner. You let the athlete talk, and he'll reveal himself to the audience. You don't go into it looking to embarrass them.
Btw, Hobie has out-earned the majority of elite runners in the US over the past 5 years. Hate all you want, but he went out on a limb, took a risk, and it has payed off.
In the meantime, we sit back on our couches and criticize a new, successful sport instead of encouraging it (It is a sister sport, after all, and its growth in turn will help our dying sport). Let us not create a rift with obstacle racing like we did with the CrossFitters.
Who are the sub4 guys?
I bet hes talking Mark Husted and Ryan woods. Im not familiar with any of the rest of the names (but Max mighta been sub 4 based on his steeple conversion)
This is the guy who should take on King:
hi Hobie

As far as I could tell, Runners World asked him if he had any evidence of any form that indicated that his goal time of 2 hours was even remotely credible and he responded with nonsense, completely ignoring the question.
If I claim that I'm going to train to win all four golf majors in a year and offer as my training program the fact that I can play a round of golf one-handed while bouncing a golf ball on a sand wedge held in the other hand, I would imagine that Gold Digest would treat me like the lunatic that I am (but I once shot a 75!).
They should add more military style obstacles. Throw in the tough one or weaver. At least throw in a few rope climbs.
Wonder what a 20 ft rope climb every half mile would do to the results
Alan
Just for your info, do some research. Look at any and every race Gray and King have competed against each other lately. Gray> King.
GRAY needs to try some of these races. You are crazy if you think he wouldn't do as he has done with King in other areas of running the last years.
Gray is my homeboy, but I suspect he can do maybe four pullups. Plus he wouldn't have 25+ minutes to pass the entire field ;)
