It appears that former Stanford runner, Thomas Graham, is doing pretty well these days running on his own. Graham just got 3rd at Santa Clara, finishing ahead of 5 Stanford guys, and 6 Oklahoma State guys? Wow That's Great.
What is up at the Farm?

Well, Stanford ran most or all of the "A" team guys at Wisconsin yesterday, and the top three Standford guys all ran as a group and at least one or two were thus probably not quite all-out.
Also, note the guy in 19th, who ran 6th in the Stanford race last month with a performance that got him the DII XC runner of the week. If the name is familiar look at the Oregon roster.
Looking at who Thomas Graham beat from OK State, he would be #5-man on the OK State team, and they are higher ranked than Stanford.
What a strange state of affairs.
Very strange indeed. Is he still enrolled at Stanford has he transferred to another school?
Yes, he is still enrolled at Stanford. He took visits to Syracuse, Wisconsin, and NC State over the summer but decided to stay at Stanford.
How is he running so well?
Say what???? wrote:

What are you so surprised about? That someone can perform well without a coach?
So is he going to transfer somewhere and compete on a d1 team again or no?
why did he leave the team exactly? If he's runninh unattached and just as fast as he would at a meet where stanford sent B guys anyways, why wouldn't graham have just stayed on the roster to continuing competing for the cardinals?
Did he leave by choice or he was cut for some reason?
Thomas does have a coach and he's a big time talent

Just looking at the results from Wisonsin and I noticed a strange pattern for Stanford.
Both mens and womens team leaders for Stanford have each been with the team for about 7-weeks. #1 Man (5th yr transfer) and #1 Woman (new freshman).
Maybe it's just coincidental, but how could it be that both teams are being led by people that the current coach really hasn't worked with, and yet 2 longer-term key runners for each squad seem to be done/out for the season.
Doesn't that seem odd?
That is great for Thomas Graham. Better for him to be in an environment that actually brings him up rather than down. Great race.

Come on now. This string of posts doesn't add up.
So qre we to believe that Thomas Graham continues to train and race, also thinks the world of the Stanford coach, but doesn't want to race for Stanford? That is about strange a story as I've ever heard.
I have the solution for Stanford. Let Thomas train on his own, then throw a Stanford jersey on him and let him race for the team.
What about working with the individual with some flexibility here?
Expect Graham to finish his academic career at Stanford, and then run a 5th year for a contender.
If I were a supporter of this program I'd be asking some tough questions about not only Thomas Graham, but also Cayla Hatton. Both of these top-ranked recruits were recruited the year before Mittlenberg arrived and have since quit the team. Then the injury roster this year speaks for itself. Not every athlete works out but at some point bad luck points to more systemic problems with the program and its coaching.
I can tell you that the track association at my school would be very concerned about at a runner of Thomas Graham's caliber running on his own in collegiate races and not for the team.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
Running for Bowerman Track Club used to be cool now its embarrassing
Rest in Peace Adrian Lehmann - 2:11 Swiss marathoner. Dies of heart attack.
Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
