There is no such thing as an "ectomorph." That term was invented by a racist/anti-semite, sexist psychologist who thought certain people were naturally predisposed to be skinny, fat, or muscular, and of course that also determined their personality: fat = dumb, skinny = introverted, muscular = driven. This helped explain why white men are superior, but has been discredited by scientists.
But it makes sense that it would be popular here.
The original meaning though behind the classification of ecto/endomorphs was wrong, but there is definitely a genetic component to how people build muscle and to what their baseline of muscle mass is. Some people gain very little muscle mass when doing strength training. They are generally people with very light frames and can be vaguely classified as "ectomorphs". This does not mean that they will be weak or bad at sports. Just look at guys like Roger Federer and Neymar.
As for the OP, if you are in high school, you may just be witnessing kids who have reached physical maturity faster than others. I have seen lots of scrawny kids come in as freshman and sophmores and barely hold on to a spot on the XC team, while kids who missed the cut on the football team run circles around them. But when the scrawny kids hit their junior and senior years, they often show tons of improvement and end up a minute or two in front of the more muscular kids.
I have also seen a lot of cases of bony kids just starting from scratch physically because they were always pushed out from participation from other sports due to lack of upper body strength. The better built kids have been on soccer leagues, played basketball and tennis for years and are in pretty good shape aerobically.
So, for the OP, keep at it. Odds are that you just have to more work to do to build your fitness than other kids. Eventually, your genetic advantage will come through.
