Wrong, you can have varying levels of talent but talent has nothing to do with success.
Your hypothesis is that you will do better or worse based on your view of your own talent, and that may be correct, but that has nothing to do with talent. Talent is innate, it cannot be improved or destroyed (unless by mutilation or age).
Talent without any other factors has very little to do with success. Talent with hard work is success.
Running talent is extremely common. The coaching to develop it is extremely rare.
YOUR BELIEF SHOWS THAT YOU ARE A POMPOUS JACKASS. RIGHT OR WRONG, I AM STILL RIGHT.

Talent to run is extremely common. Talent to run fast is extremely rare.
People in the top 1% of running talent constantly write "I have no talent" on this board. If that makes them harder to make up for their "limited" talent, good for them.

Not true. Talent to run fast is extremely common. Look around you; talent everywhere being misdirected by bad coaching.
I disagree.......have you ever watched the first couple of weeks of American Idol? Those clowns think they have talent.

Motivational pablum. If that shit helps you helps you then good for you. But really not a true statement.

Totally agree. I've recently realized that I have talent and have made vast improvements, although some of that is due to the great coaching that showed me my talent.

Well they have a special talent for entertainment, you can't deny that?
Yes they are either very delusional or very very nervous.

No, it's not. Motivational speakers are selling you a dream. They can't change your psychology. I know the failings of trying to motivate runners who lack self belief only too well.

Amazing how far Clint Eastwood got with limited acting ability.

You spelt "discus" wrong
Clint didn't get far because of acting talent or lack of acting talent. Clint got far because he has lots of talent for understanding what movies people want to watch and what part/role or job he should contribute.
This is also true with running. It doesn't take much talent to run sub 15 if you have great coaching (a talent that is not yours) and it may be possible to run sub 14 if your talent is belief and you find a great coach.
The problem is neither sub 15 nor sub 14 is getting far in running. Given the money breakdown for running, somewhere between 13:30 and 13:20 is the break even point.

I feel I have a lot of talent for the discus. Will this help motivate me to throw it farther?
So how talented are you, and when are you going to break Bekele's record?
You are a talented troll. And I believe that.
Talent is just a weasel word for when you can do something and nobody can explain how. Not being able to explain it allows them say it's some kind of inborn trait, which makes them feel better about not being able to do it themselves.
Because it makes them feel better, people prefer talking about "talent" and are lazy about looking for real explanations. Skiers like Bode Miller and a lot of pro tennis players received expensive elite training from a young age. So if you're a mediocre tennis player or skier, you can't say they're more talented than you, just a whole lot richer. That's not a pleasant thing to think about.
Galen Rupp received expensive elite training from a young age. What are the odds that the most talented US distance prospect would happen to show up at the school where Salazar worked? Nope, not talent, he was just in the right place at the right time.
Rift Valley Kenyans grow up hungry and working hard all the time at altitude. A very small percentage of them end up with willowy frames that can run 2:03 marathons, a predictable result of that kind of upbringing. But people feel better if it's just "genetics" i.e. talent. Then they don't have to move their children to high altitude, starve them and work their asses off to make distance runners of them. Better for that to be impossible.
