Just run baby
Have you ever seen without limits where steve prefontaine kicks George youngs ass in the 2 mile? Do that startegy
Pull away in mile two and hold on.
run a faster pace than him

I never saw that movie, ive only seen prefontaine. What strategy did pre use?
He does increasing negative splits to wear out George young. Which is what you need to do because your competition also has a killer kick like George young did. Also you should watch without limits, it's a great movie.
You can probably watch the clip on youtube
If your opponent has a really killer kick, he's probably 10-20 seconds faster than you all-out. There's probably nothing you can do other than hope he doesn't eat a good breakfast.
The best thing for you to do is run all-out. You'll set a PR and you just might beat him.
Hang on to him. If he goes out hard, don't hang back and see if he comes to you. Just run his pace. Also, if you wanna go Mo Farah on him, take the lead at the halfway point and randomly surge 100 meters at a time to break his mental strength. Remember he's probably as nervous as you are right now, considering this is a tie breaker, not a mismatch. Anyways, take that lead anywhere between lap 3-5, and surge whenever you feel good. Pull away with 600 to go. The surges combined with long kick will have him shivering in his spikes.

When has Farah ever done that more than once? I thought his usual thing was a fast last lap?

Pre actually did that in the 5k against George Young, but still a good strategy if you want to try it.
Work on your finish.
Yeah on the track he always takes off in last and comes in with the kick, sorry I should've specified. The half marathon he recently won with a 59:59. His road race strategy is break the opponent with random surges. Oh also closing the last mile in 4:01 cause you're Mo f***kin Farah works too.
