Even though the marathon is like nothing else, I think what freaks people out is we have guys with way better under side than some old timers had and they cannot even approach thosse marks
The skill sets seem to be a little more disparate than you would think.
I thought Curtis might be a next level at least in the U.S. type guy, 27:24 ,solid Cross guy and it seems he can average 5 minutes now or there abouts, but the next level drop is avg'ing 4:50;s and that's a pretty big leap
Could he get there? Maybe I guess, you would think it would happen by now, he will be 30 in November, late.
It is pretty obvious by now to see what it takes on World Level
If you cannot run 2:03.xx=2:04 tops , OR have that in you whether you had to use it or not, you ain't winning shit.
Clearly Chicago winner had way more than the time he needed in him, he look spectacular.
Races will be won in slower for sure, but top level guys , have kind of set the bar for what level is required in a big spot.
