Aside from Christian Brothers, what private schools come to mind as having well-established and successful programs?

In South Florida: Belen Jesuit, Christopher Columbus (actuallyy qualified for NXN a few years ago), St. Thomas Aquinas.
CBA is pretty average after you consider how they recruit from the tri-state and give scholarships

None of those things you said are true.
CBA DOES NOT recruit or give athletic scholarships.
They are one of (if not THE) best high school program in the country currently.
From California -
Jesuit
De La Salle
it definitely seems to be hard to be a private school with a successful program

Uhh... CBA.
St. Xavier and St Ignatious from OH are consistently solid.
Middlesex School in mass doesn't seem to do much from a team standpoint in cross, but seem to churn out some really fast track runners
Tatnall in DE
Cardinal O'Hara in the Philly area (2nd to CBA at NXN Northeast in 2012)...currently ranked #2 in PA.
Malvern Prep in the Philly area. currently ranked #1 in PA.
Germantown Friends in Philly.

Hmm, not even close to one of the best programs in the country. They have success at the HS level, but the runners who come out of there do not keep it going very well.
And this year they look pretty beat up to say the least, what were they, 4th at Manhattan? Not so good after all....
ND of West Haven, CT. has had captains of Penn U. Track n XC programs for about 7 out of 10 years in the 90's.

What about harvard westlake? They're good at everything.
Philips Andover Women's team has had some great teams, Marist in GA, Archbishop Spaulding is solid, I second the tatnall vote, and there is a really small school in VA...Veritas School, that has had some remarkable runners for a school of 40 kids total in the HS.
Anyone who thinks private schools spend money on scholarships cannot be an XC coach. Everyone knows we are the lowest priority on any AD's list and if you think the school will forego 10-20K per year for one kid in XC...that just doesn't make sense. Any AD would rather invest that in the football or basketball program.

Notre Dame has sucked for a while now though. Xavier and Fairfield Prep have been very successful in the past, however, this year neither of them are very good. Mercy is pretty stacked though. Last year they got a really fast freshman, I'm not sure if she was recruited or just wanted to the school for religious reasons.
CBA has been getting it done for 35+ years. Are they one of the top teams in the country this year - apparently not, but they are an outstanding program. One of the best in the country.

In NY...St. Anthony's in S. Huntington and Chaminade in Mineola...they have consistently performed well at the federation meet against all public schools...many of their runners do compete in college and find success.
In FL...Holy Trinity has won something like 10-12 team state championships in the last decade, as well as many individual championships...mostly xc, but also some track...all in 1A...smallest class...unfortunately, very few runners ever do much in college...program tends to run hard...only the strong survive, this may be the contributing factor to low performances in college...tendency to burn out or get hurt
Collegiate in NYC is pretty good consistently - not fantastic, but it's a small school and is consistently strong.
In New Jersey, Don Bosco Prep has historically been very good, maybe a little less so this year. But had Kyle Levermore last year, now at oregon. 4:13 and 9:0X?
