Charlie Kern, son of Charlie Kern, 15:23 as a freshman at Detweiler, better than all but one of the varsity. Good luck to him.

Normal for York not to run full Varsity squad this early in the year.

While this is generally true, this York team is one of the worst in years. Dyestat currently has them 4th-6th in their SECTIONAL. Might be the first time they don't make state in decades?

Nope, the "A" squad doesn't open at Palatine like they did 5-10 years back. Now it's a couple weeks earlier at Peoria.
Obviously, a lot can change in a few months, but York doesn't really look like a trophy team right now, even with Kern.
So Charlie runs 14:36 at state for 8th place,25 sec behind winner Jesse Reiser and then 15:22 at NXN MW for 13th but only 21 sec behind Reiser. Coming along super.
York is DONE.
It needs to be said...Kern's performance at state was the fastest time ever by a freshman in Peoria. He eclipsed the previous record, held by Jorge Torres (he finished second at state as a frosh) by one second. That's some amazing company.
