"I used to run a lot more in HS and college but now I just have delusions of a track comeback"
"I used to run a lot more in HS and college but now I just have delusions of a track comeback"
So when I cross the finish line I can scream "PR FVCK YEAH, WEBB IS BACK BABY!!!!!!!!"
"Yeah, I do a little running...I usually try to run once or twice a day."
Do you even lift brah?
"Yes."
"uh huh"
no
For me the question is more like so have you run a marathon? Or Occasionally do you run marathons?
Sometimes they ask how much I ran that morning or last night if they saw me out running. Its always a question about that one run and never about the big picture, average mpw over a year or more.
"No, I got hurt in college."
or else
"I don't run or do windows."
"I qualified for the Boston Marathon. How are those overpriced, color-themed, untimed 5k shuffle runs treating you?"
"I go for the occasional jog-about"
All. Dang. Day.
Potato
This is kind of trite and rote.
No, you all cannot be a champion. Factor that by one Olympics every 4 years.
I think wanting to win is not important at all.
I think fantasizing that you are winning the Olympic gold while having a blast training your ass off / or on, is the important thing.
Training should be gratifying, always leave some on the track or trail for next time.
Races should be the fun icing on the cake.
I bet you almost everyon's PB felt FUN.
And better than all that stuff, years later... That your teammates and friends are a fraternity or a sorority For Life.
Your Tribe.
You might not know it to look at me, but I can run really, really fast!
Alternately: "I choose not to run."
"Stop meddling in my affairs!"
Although I no longer look the part I was a comptetive runner for a number of years spanning from 8th grade through college.
As a 30+ year runner who moved back to the town I grew up in, a frequent variation on the question I get is "so do you still run?" My favorite answer is "not since this morning".

Definitely. People find it crazy that I've "only" done one marathon and it was as a pacer.
