I've started graduate school and am realizing the program I'm in is not what I want. It's a fine program, it's just not for me and isn't what I thought I wanted to do. Right now I'm in environmental science and am supposed to be working on stormwater, but I've realized I'm much more interested in natural ecosystems and actual biology. I'm fascinated by life and evolution, not so much by pollution and human waste. I enjoy the physics and chemistry and geology too, but I really see myself as a biologist and would much rather be studying ecology or wildlife biology. Unfortunately those programs are not offered at my current school... This has me thinking I might want to transfer. I'm only one year in, and some of the coursework overlaps, so it wouldn't be a huge loss. I'm just not sure if anyone ever does this or if it looks really weird. Would professors at another school even want to take me knowing I'm already in grad school?
Anyone done this before? Can anyone share some insight?
