Report of the death of the running back is greatly exaggerated.

Last year's league rusher, LeSean McCoy of the Eagles, had only 22 yards yesterday in the Eagles victory.

Their QB, Nick Foles, was outstanding, though.

And they put up 37 points in a close game.

The 3-0 Eagles haven't had a 100 yard rusher in any game this year but Foles has passed for over 300 yards each game.

But teams have focused on McCoy which has opened up the passing game.

If their opponents drop back in coverage, McCoy will run all over them.

So the threat of running still helps.

This is the year that tests this. Two of the top RBs Rice and Peterson are out. Will their backups do the same which would suggest that RBs are interchangeable and that running success is more a function of the line than the RB himself? Or will the backups fail to measure up to the performance of the suspended starter which would suggest that RBs are not simply interchangeable?

If they keep relying on the passing game,they won't make it far in the playoffs.

If the Quarterback is Black then maybe they can(tongue firmly planted in the cheek).

Uhh, Flacco had 3 TDs & almost 300 yds in the super bowl. Running backs didn't even have 100 yards TOTAL. Flacco led the way & got the MVP award.

We didn't see the Vikings do much in the years with just Adrian Peterson and some QB.

Let's just agree you need a good running game, a good QB and good defense and reliable special teams to win consistently.

And a good coach.

How come this didn't come up with the QB that year that Brady got hurt? One of the top 3 QBs in the league goes down and his backup comes in and basically does just as good.

Eagles are winning over garbage teams by the skin of their teeth. I'm a fan, but expect to see a few ugly losses later in the season.

What is this fascination with American football with US runners?

Are the players looked upon as some sort of athlete to be impressed by or is just that the game is actually interesting?

Thew few games that I have seen, it seems there may be 4 or 5 players (out of 50,60) that have some athletic talent.

Generally seems as athletic as golf, but with less action...I think 15 minutes of action for a 4 hour game?

Brady went 10-6 the next year, but won the division.

11-5 is obviously good and makes the playoffs any other year.

I worded it in an unfair way, yes.

But your wording of Kassel doing basically as good as Brady was a bit unfair, too.

There's a reason the Patriots kept Brady and let Kassel go.
