i've been looking into the 5:2 diet - basically eat 5 days normal and 2 days of 600 calories or fewer for 2 days (not consecutive). Meant to be very effective.
The reasoning is that as hunter gatherers we seldom had enough food all the time so were either feasting or fasting.
Theory is fasting sharpens our minds too as we wanted to be sharp when hunting for animals - makes me wonder about pre race meal and just how full you should be? Could fasting a bit be beneficial? Thoughts?
