Hi, I am a college freshman. I am not currently on my school's varsity cross country team, but I am thinking about transferring schools both for academic and social reasons, and also because I should be talented enough to get on a D1 team, but I think the coaching staff at my current school are jerks (and I've heard that from other sources too). I should be able to run 15:20-15:30 for 5k during this spring's outdoor track season, so I am not looking for an upper level D1, but rather a mid-level school with good academics or a solid D3 school. I'm not trying to be that guy right now, but some of the schools I'm looking at are any mid-level (running wise) Ivy League school, as well as UChicago or WashU. I had a low GPA in high school (for those schools), but was a late bloomer both in running and academics, and am currently getting a 3.9 at my current institution, which is a slightly above average, mid-sized D1 school in terms of academics and demographics. What should I do next in terms of contacting coaches and applying for these schools?
