You could smell the smoke out there. The east wind was pushing a lot of it into the area. It must have been a horrible idea to go running. I'm sure others are in the same boat.
Saturday 8 miles in Beaverton. Sunday 2 hours over Terwilliger, into downtown and into SE. Then back again. Absolutely no issue with smoke. Did not smell any or see any. Must have been lucky with wind direction.
Ran 19 in SE today. Didn't notice a thing
portland has terrible air pollution. the diesel emission standards are way lower in oregon than in cali or washington. many old dirty diesels trucks and construction equipment end up in the Portland metro area. there are some areas in the city where diesel emissions are several thousand times higher than cali benchmarks. Combine that with industry that produces lots of heavy metals and voc's you have recipe for toxic soup. pcc in se was just named the nations top polluter. north portland has 19 companies that report to the epas toxic release inventory. northwest has its share including esco which is right next to 23rd and the pearl. you can smell it in the forest in nw on most days. the worst is in the winter with the inversion. there were a couple days last year that were very bad. it is quite a view to be up on skyline blvd looking down onto the smoggy valleys on both sides. the best solution is to reduce driving and retrofit old diesel engines with filters, and to convincing industry to stop polluting, which will be a challenge for the city.
guess what, any smoke in Portland is not from Colorado. Its too far away.
Hey Einstein, we had 2 major fires happening at the same time near the Portland area. The Scoggins Valley Fire and the Pit 36 near Estacada.
thanks for the post otto.
surprising this continues. it could be such a better city.
they'll protest pretty much anything here, but air quality, no one cares?
And all the wood stoves can't help much either.
