I stopped running my sophomore year in college because I figured I was just average and I could never make a living at it.

If I stopped doing everything that wasn't going to allow me to make a living off of it, well, I would be living a VERY boring life.

There are a hell of a lot of folks earning a living doing stuff they are not good at out there.

I'm not sure I understand your comment.

I was referring to the OP's notion that because he was unable to make a living off of running, he stopped running. And so I broadened that ideal to all things that I do that do not make me money which is literally everything except for one thing (and so I do that one thing to make a living).

Apparently, to the OP, it sounds like he has no interest in any activities or hobbies or anything like that unless it could earn him a living wage. In my opinion, that is a very sad way to live, haha.

That being said, I do agree that there are a LOT of people who make a living doing things that are very quite terrible at!

So am I biochemically superior to other humans or what? I'm out of shape now, but if I took up a sport like MMA or mountain climbing or whatever would I naturally kick butt? Am I sitting on a genetic goldmine?

You're obviously good at quitting.

You ran a sub-16 because you were little, skinny and un-manly. You quit because you sensed that skinniness and twerpness is a teenage affliction and that it was time to grow up and gain weight.

Your sub-16 might possibly make you good at
