I ordered a pair of Carreras to compare them to the Shay XC4 and I preferred the XC4 because it's more substantial but doesn't weight much more. The Carreras were very thin everywhere and felt like they may last a season. The XC4 I know I will get 2-3 seasons out of if I wish. They had a thicker sole which bent MUCH more naturally with the foot than the Carreras. So, if you aren't worried as much about ergonomics or foot injuries, the extra ounce of weight might cause you to buy the Carreras. Otherwise the Shays are a better choice.
I bought the Carreras for cross workouts and a couple cross races. Also ordered the Vic XC 3s at the same time to compare. Immediately returned the victory XC 3s because of their plastic horseshoe plate. If I wanted a track spike, I'd go right for the Matumbos.
The carreras are really light, and like the previous poster said, may only last one heavily raced season.
The Shay XCs ROCK this year. Light, cushioned, yet FANTASTIC tread, even without the spikes in.
This year they're even lighter than the Victory XCs.
But whatever you do, don't base your opinions off of people on the internet. Go to your local running store and try these models on. Although I'm confident you'll like the shays the best.
Five years ago they were unwieldy beasts

but thankfully they aren't like that anymore.

Carreas are great spikes. Light and have a great feel.
Nike Zoom Victory, lightest spike ever made. 3.5 oz
Check out the Nike Matumbo 2 - highly recommend them as a fast, breathable spike:
