I had to update my phone today, which required that I "agree" and "have read" Apple's 55 page terms of agreement. Virtually nobody reads this. How can it be legal and/or truly legally binding? It's total horsesh.t.

well, in summary, what is it about and what is it making you agree to?
Burden is on you to read what you agree to. Apple has no obligation to make sure you read it. However, it is a contract of adhesion and is subject to additional scrutiny under state and federal consumer protection laws and (to the extent it still exists in every state) can be held to be unconscionable and unenforceable.
The terms are not page numbered.
You clearly haven't seen the South Park that references this.
They provide the contract. It's up to you to read it. If you agree to it without reading it, that's on you.

Yeah, well, they were on the one I just agreed to that was actually 56 pages long, not 55.

Right, absolutely. Yet virtually nobody reads these novel length agreements and hundreds of millions of people "agree" to them so they can connect with the rest of humanity via technology. What's the point of even having the agreement if everyone just clicks by it? It's a total sham.
And you dumbas.e. just prove that most people on letsrun just like to be the devil's advocate rather than have meaningful discussion.
Ummm, there are no page numbers. You didn't have to accept the terms. You are simply trolling to get a rise out of iPhone users.
Here, go read the Google terms and conditions you ignored when you bought your droid phone.
PART 1:
http://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/
PART 2:
http://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/terms/
PART 3:
http://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/technologies/
PART 4:
http://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/key-terms/#toc-terms-personal-info
PART 5:
http://www.google.com/intl/en/about/appsecurity/
PART 6: Yes, there are other T&Cs squirreled away on various Google owned sites.
Again, they write it and you agree to it. It doesn't matter whether or not you read it. The point of having it is so they have permission to do whatever you agree to and so the user can utilize the functions of the device. If someone is ignorant enough to agree to something they don't read, that's their fault.
Why the personal insult? Besides, what is a dumbase?
Hopefully I'm understanding this sentence correctly. I'm not being the devil's advocate. That's my honest opinion. If you think honest opinions aren't conducive to a meaningful discussion, then I'm sorry.
Sorry about the bold text.
