I've been out of it for 3+ months, either with a torn meniscus or stress fracture (maybe both, doc still not sure). It sucks.
What's the longest you've had to stop running? What was your injury, and how'd you get healthy again?

2 weeks. I could do the elliptical so I was OK.
bump
I had a stress fracture in my foot and was out for 4 months.

How'd it happen? Just one of those things, or a flaw in your training?

I think it was a combination of over training and bad shoes. I was a lot younger and stupid. I went to Dicks to buy tennis shoes to run. They were really cheap, crappy tennis shoes.
Also over the summer before XC season I increased my mileage by 20-25 mpw in a month. This was probably the biggest cause.
After a long run one day my right foot had a little pain in it. It was annoying, but didn't really hurt that much so I ignored it. Stupid, I know. After a speed workout a week later it flamed up and I could barely walk for a couple days.
Out for 6 months with a torn Achilles. That really sucked.

Coming up on 42 years, and counting.
What was your injury...
Never clearly diagnosed, but pain at the insertion of the peroneus brevis on the lateral arch of the foot. Not a Jones fracture.
...and how'd you get healthy again?
I haven't. I miss running, every single day. (And the injury has been bothering me again, the last few days...still there.)
I hope you get well soon, and stay healthy thereafter. Being out long-term does indeed suck.
1 year and still going
18 months. Eventually got over at and now running 50 mpw.
6 weeks. Twisted my ankle.
did any of you exercise at all, or was it time off from all exercise?
I biked for about 1.5 hours per day.
18 years
Ended up being extremely tight psoas muscles that would go into spasm.
Got in great shape again when I was 39 and had an accident at work that put me out 3.5 years.
I've been running pretty steady now for the last 6 years with only minor running injuries.
3 months. Tore my ankle to bits.
2 weeks, strained groin
Around 2.5 months, I've been injured so much I can't remember the exact injury but it was something with my knee, never got it checked. After 3 weeks of straight biking/elliptical I said F it and just didn't do anything, except 1-2x a week I'd cross train, for about a month and a half. I did some rehab stuff but eventually it just went away.
If you're devoted you'll stay committed and not give up. I'm lucky mine didn't last longer or I would have never tied the shoes 3+ years ago
