I recently just had my third blood test in a span of about a month, because of one extreme abnormality on my blood test. I got the test in the first place to check out my Iron levels (I eat a plant-based diet, and keeping Iron levels up isn't always easy), but when I got it back I was informed that my Liver Enzymes (shown on lab test as Alk Phosphotase) were elevated. To give the numbers, I had 287 U/L for alk phosphotase, whereas the reference range is 40-150 U/L. Because of this, I was instructed to have another test, which tested me for Hepatitis, and Lyme disease. Both Negative. Finally, I just had a third test, which I was about to secure about 48 hours of rest (from my training) before. This time, I was slightly lower, but still waayyy above normal at 255 U/L. The doctor recommended that I see a specialist, and possibly have a biopsy on the liver— which sounds like a pain.
Anyway, I am 16 years old, a high school junior. I've been running since 8th grade, and my team is currently doing about 40 mpw. Could this be cause for the elevated liver enzymes? I've also read that bone growth can cause the levels to be elevated. While I think I should be done growing, I have very recently leveled out (I think) at 6 foot. I was 5'7" my freshmen year, so I have gained a few inches, if that means anything. So I am basically curious if anyone else has had these results. I really don't want to do anything major (like getting a biopsy) if I don't have to. Anything helps! Thanks.
