With Solinsky and Bairu leaving Bowerman, it made me think of one of the other original badgers, Tim Nelson. Last result I saw from him was 2012 Olympic Trials 10k. Anybody know what happened to him?

Lol I was literally just wondering the same thing

I doubt you were, you usually seem to focus on the D2 threads like the one Ashland started because this year they might have a team of one 14:10 5k runner and 4 other 14:30-35 guys and might get top 5 at D2 crossI like they last did in the late 1990's.
Nelson ran 28:04 in college at Wisconsin to eclipse two-time NCAA cross champ Simon Bairu's school record in 2007. Before Bairu that record was 28:28 and had stood since 1976.
Three years later Nelson was down to 27:31 and also ran 27:37. He should have been a major emerging star after starting probably close to a walk-on at Wisconsin.
I always wondered what was going with him but its been 2-3 years since he was close the that top American level and figured he moved on to other things.
I was looking up Matt Tegencamp for fun and in an article Tim Nelson was also mentioned. Sorry for knowing who D1 runners are even though I'm more interested in D2? Ashland FTW
Seriously think the 'thon buggered up both him & Bairu.
And Jorge Torres & Bob Kennedy.

Cool. I like your enthusiasm. I misinterpreted and thought you were the doing the whole "who?" routine.
And yet we still have not found the answer of "whatever happened to Tim Nelson?"
I think he is 28 now and probably had 1 or 2 year contracts that enabled him to focus full-time on running. At that age when you lose your sponsorship you have to decided whether to move back with your parents to train for one more comeback or focus on the rest of your life and put your energies into that. Which is what I suspect is why no one has heard what Tim Nelson is up to.
He turned 30 in February. Still living in Portland and I think that he works for a media website.
28? Is he that young? My first reaction to this thread is that he had gotten up in age. I would have guessed he was 30-31.
In any case, he had a pretty good career on the track. I recall he went to a World Championship and the 08' Olympics I think (I could be wrong about the Olympics) even as he clearly was not blessed with the talent that his American contemporaries had.
The smart a$$ response to this question is that he had a nice little career on the track by overachieving and now he has moved on to other things.

Likely what happened, as per about 2010, with Teg in limbo (between track and marathon), Solinsky and Jager competing on the track, Bairu and Nelson seemed to be poised for a marathon career (and were doing similar things and represented as doing such by Kimbia, etc). Some forumite must be connected interpersonally/follower on social media (I'd rather not do the creeping myself) and know more specifics. It shouldn't be all or nothing with the marathon--someone suggested Bairu had some metabolic issues after his marathon collapse. It may be possible that Nelson has/had some health issues, but it would have been nice to see him give the roads/half-marathon, etc. a chance and stay in it.
Whoops, improper grammar.
I meant to write "Likely what happened," then period (acknowledging the quoted post). And then discussing speculations
